Description
The botanical name of Saffron is Crocus Sativus, and it belongs to the Iris family. Saffron grows well in a warm Subtropical climate. In India, it is mainly cultivated in Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The right time to produce Saffron is August- September, and the flowers come out from October and December. Saffron is very expensive. The price of Saffron usually varies between Rs. 1 lakh 60 thousand to 3 lakh per kg. Around 300 tonnes are produced worldwide. Hence one has to be very careful while purchasing Saffron as many adulterated ones are sold in the market. The color of pure original Saffron appears slowly in the water while adulterated will quickly dissolve in water, leaving just color. Saffron enhances the beauty of the food and even has health benefits. It may cure hair loss and even help in weight loss.
